 What to Bring?

This question gets asked so frequently we've decided to dedicate a page to it! Don't worry about any technical and safety equipment, we will supply all of that.

A typical course tends to require a general range of items to make your time with us even more of a joy, but be prepared for the best and worst that the weather can offer, here's a few ideas:

  • Sun cream, sun glasses and a hat in the summer

  • Change of clothing for all water-based activities (Kayaking, Open Canoeing, Gorge Walking, White Water Rafting)

  • Suitable footwear (see individual activities below - remember for water-based activities your footwear will get wet!)

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers

  • A flask and packed lunch

  • A small rucksack

  • Any personal medication, especially for asthmatics

Here is a list of all our activities with the specific kit you will need to bring:

Abseiling

We supply harnesses, helmets and all other necessary equipment.

You need to wear walking boots or sturdy trainers, suitable outdoor clothing (no denim please) and bring waterproofs just in case.

Gorge Walking

  • We supply buoyancy aids, helmets, wetsuits and all other necessary equipment

  • You need to bring

  • walking boots or sturdy trainers (which will get wet!),

  • a swimsuit,  and a towel.

  • Bring a pair of shorts to wear over your wet suit.
    Wetsuits are designed to keep you warm when wet, but if you do feel the cold considerably you should bring a thermal (not cotton) top or a lightweight fleece to wear under your wetsuit.

Kayaking  

We supply buoyancy aids, helmets, wetsuits and all other necessary equipment.

You need to bring trainers (which will get wet!), a swimsuit,  and a towel. Wetsuits are designed to keep you warm when wet, but if you do feel the cold considerably you should bring a thermal (not cotton) top or a lightweight fleece to wear under your wetsuit.

Lockwood's Chimney  

We supply harnesses, helmets and all other necessary equipment.

Open Canoeing 

We supply buoyancy aids, helmets, wetsuits and all other necessary equipment.

Rock Climbing  

We supply harnesses, helmets and all other necessary equipment.

You need to wear sturdy trainers, suitable outdoor clothing (no denim please) and bring waterproofs just in case.

Team-Building  

We supply all necessary equipment.

You need to wear walking boots or sturdy trainers, suitable outdoor clothing (no denim please) and bring waterproofs just in case.

White Water Rafting  

We supply buoyancy aids, helmets, wetsuits and all other necessary equipment.

Bushcraft and Survival

You need to wear walking boots or sturdy trainers, suitable outdoor clothing (no denim please) and bring waterproofs just in case. For Explore Bushcraft and Survival and Ultimate Bushcraft and Survival courses you will also need some other basic equipment - a full kit list will be supplied on booking, or you can download a copy of the kit list here.

MIAS Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme

Bring your bike and biking kit. If you are looking to be assessed at level 2 come equipped as per the MIAS leader kit, a list of which can be found on our downloads page.
